1. Bread

Have you ever looked at the ingredients on bread? Even the brands that claim to be better than the others are still not as good as the quality of fresh made bread. Not only does it taste amazing, but you know exactly what’s in it. Best of all, you can make a loaf of bread for literally pennies. Stop paying $3 to $4 for a loaf of bread. If you want to ask for a bread maker as a gift, it gets even easier (wink, wink).

2. Paper Towels

Yes, paper towels are convenient. However, not only are you literally throwing away money, but think of what you’re doing to the environment. You can purchase reusable paper towels that can be washed and reused many times. You can also cut down old tee shirts to recycle into cleaning cloths.

3. New Movies, Books, Video Games

Media is expensive. Whether it’s movies, books, or video games, buying these items new can cost a lot. Instead, why not hit a thrift store? You can often find movies for $1 each, books as low as $0.25 each, and video games for as low as $1.50 each. Think of how much more you could get for your money! Kindle Unlimited is a favorite in our family.

4. Magazines

Seriously, stop buying magazines. You might find the information and ideas interesting, but you can find the exact information online. Pinterest is loaded with ideas and it’s completely free.

5. Cable/Satellite Service

Is it really worth $150 per month to watch TV? There are so many options out there that are so much cheaper. You can watch so much awesome content on YouTube. You can also subscribe to Hulu or Netflix for $15 or less per month.

6. Prepared Produce

Cut fruit and items from a grocery store salad bar are a huge waste of money. You are being charged a huge amount for this convenience. Take the time to prep your fruits and vegetables when you get home to make eating everything easier the rest of the week.

7. Dryer Sheets

Not only are dryer sheets expensive, but you’re adding chemicals to your clothing. Instead, invest in a set of dryer balls. These can be reused over and over and are completely natural.

8. Makeup Remover

Makeup remover can get expensive. Not only that, but what’s in it? Does it dry out your skin? Stop buying it. You can use coconut oil to remove your makeup.

9. Gym Memberships

Why pay to exercise? Unless you simply love being in a gym, stop paying for the membership. You can do so many exercises for free. You can go walking, create weights at home using water jugs, etc. If you like something more organized, a quality exercise video system is also an awesome choice that’s a one time buy.

10. Bottled Water

Bottled waters create so much waste. You can purchase a filter for your faucet or your entire home. You can also purchase reusable water bottles with a built-in filter.

11. Shave Gel

Are you paying $3 or more for a can of shave gel? You can actually use conditioner instead. If you’re already using conditioner, just slather it on your legs and shave. It will actually help moisturize your skin.

12. Spice Mixes

Do you love taco seasoning or chili mix? Instead of buying them premade, why not make your own? You can make a huge amount for very little. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also know the ingredients.

13. Manis and Pedis

It is so expensive to get your nails done. Not only that but there are so many horror stories about how nasty some nail salons are. Save your money and do your nails at home. It’s so inexpensive and much safer.

14. Expensive Coffee Drinks

Yes, they taste amazing, but the price is outrageous. You can find copycat recipes of almost any drink online. You can even make big batches of cold coffee drinks so you have them in the fridge ready to go. For example, this simple spiced caramel cappuccino is downright amazing (plus keto and healthy) and is homemade in mere minutes.
