Virtual Book Club Leaf Activity
Fall is a good time to take a nature walk around your neighborhood, at a park, or even in your own backyard. We went outside in our backyard to make our own leaf sensory bin. Starting with some shredded paper at the bottom of our orange bucket we decided to collect objects found in nature that remind us of fall. We looked for objects with different textures for our fall sensory bin.
Examples of Objects with Different Textures
- Smooth Rocks
- Rocks with Jagged Edges
- Smooth Shiny Leaves
- Rough Crunchy Leaves
- Bumpy Twigs and Pinecones
Exploring Nature through Textures
Sit down with the bucket and feel the different textures of the fall objects. Green smooth leaves have a waxy feel while leaves that have fallen and turned brown are brittle to the touch. Drawing a simple graph to show which texture is found most in the nature bucket can be a fun educational add-on activity. Draw or trace the objects as an art activity.
