Puppet Theatre and Puppets
I really love this week’s virtual book club for kids book and have been reading it to my children for years. They’ve come home from school with Five Little Pumpkin themed crafts, and enjoy memorizing the rhyming story to sing around the house. We know that reading to our kids helps develop their literary and language skills so let’s expand on this story even more with movement and play! We’re using a cardboard cereal box, wooden craft sticks and characters from a free printable (available below) to make our own Five Little Pumpkins themed puppet theatre.
Supplies
- Wooden craft sticks (popsicle sticks)
- Cereal Box
- Green construction paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Printable characters and scenery
Directions
DIY Puppet Theatre
Cut a large square out of the front of the cereal box.
Lay the cereal box on it’s side so a log edge is on a table. Cut a large rectangle from the back of the box that measures about half way up the box and the entire length.
Cut green paper to fit the sides and front of the box and glue the paper to the box. Then glue a piece of paper to the remaining inside cardboard on the back of the box. This is your puppet theatre set. Glue any scenery you want to use from the free printable to the green paper inside the box.
DIY Puppets
Cut the five pumpkins from the printable. Glue them to the top of a craft stick.
Activity
Set your puppet theatre on the edge of a table. Your kids can sit on the floor behind the table and theatre Use the puppets to act out the book or create a story of your own!
